IN. REYKJAVIK. Residence

Restoration of the residence of the German ambassador

Restricted award procedure / General planning

Extraordinary substance – The building was originally conceived by Guðjón Samúelsson, Iceland’s most eminent architect, as a residential building. Formed entirely of concrete, down to its ornamental façades, the building embodies a sculptural solidity that demanded a profound dialogue with its material essence throughout the restoration. The original windows, removed in the 1970s, were meticulously reconstructed under heritage supervision — their design rediscovered through extensive research into Reykjavík’s architectural fabric. A project defined by reverence for substance and craftsmanship.

The project was honoured with the Icelandic Heritage Conservation Award.
